Senior Robotics Perception Engineer – Multi-Object Tracking

Munich (DEU)
Full-time
Permanent employee

What we offer

  • Work in an international, agile team creating the future of autonomous systems
  • Grow your career in a expanding and ambitious engineering team
  • Build innovative products using state-of-the-art technologies in AI, robotics, and autonomy
  • Benefit from a steep learning curve and continuous development
  • Enjoy team events and a strong, collaborative culture

Your mission

Join our robotics team to develop next-generation perception and multi-object tracking systems capable of operating reliably in complex, dynamic, GPS-denied environments.

As our technical expert for Multi-Object Tracking and state estimation, you will drive the evolution of our perception stack, from architecture and algorithm design to deployment on real robotic platforms. Working closely with autonomy, controls and middleware engineers, you will participate to technical decisions, establish best practices and continuously improve the robustness and performance of our perception capabilities.

This is a highly hands-on robotics position focused on delivering production-ready software that performs reliably in the field, not research prototypes.

Your responsabilities :
  • Drive the technical direction of our Multi-Object Tracking and perception capabilities
  • Design, develop and optimize robust multi-object tracking pipelines for dynamic environments
  • Define scalable architectures for state estimation and multi-sensor fusion systems
  • Develop probabilistic estimation and optimization algorithms for real-world robotics applications.
  • Own the development of intrinsic and extrinsic calibration pipelines for complex sensor configurations, including zooming camera systems
  • Evaluate and introduce new algorithmstools and technologies to continuously improve tracking performance and robustness
  • Work closely with autonomycontrols and middleware teams to ensure seamless end-to-end system integration
  • Mentor and support other engineers through technical discussions, architecture reviews and code reviews
  • Develop and validate perception algorithms in simulation before deployment on embedded robotic platforms.
  • Optimize algorithms for real-time execution on embedded GPU platforms.
  • Lead debugging and validation during field testinganalyze failures and continuously improve system robustness

Your profile

We are looking for an experienced robotics engineer who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to drive an entire technical domain from concept to deployment.

Must-have

  • Strong C++ and Python development skills
  • Extensive experience with ROS/ROS2.
  • Strong background in robotics perception, computer vision and state estimation.
  • Proven experience developing and deploying production-grade robotics software.
  • Excellent mathematical foundations in estimation, optimization and probabilistic methods
  • Proven ability to independently drive complex technical workstreams
  • Experience deploying and debugging software on real robotic platforms.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluent English

Strong advantages

  • Multi-Object Tracking
  • Sensor Fusion
  • Visual SLAM
  • Visual-Inertial Odometry
  • Kalman, Extended Kalman or Unscented Kalman Filters
  • GTSAM, Ceres or similar optimization frameworks
  • Camera geometry and multi-camera systems
  • OpenCV
  • Embedded GPU deployment (Jetson)
  • CUDA / TensorRT
  • Docker and CI/CD
  • Linux

Nice to have

  • PhD in Robotics, Computer Vision, State Estimation or a related field

What else

  • Builder mentality: you ship working solutions, not theoretical concepts
  • Hands-on ownership: you proactively solve problems, even outside your direct scope
  • Field-driven mindset: you care about what survives real operations, not “lab perfect”
  • High quality bar: you aim for reliability, determinism, and clarity in your engineering
  • Startup drive: you execute fast despite ambiguity, and adapt quickly
  • Mission alignment: genuine motivation to work on defense-relevant, safety-critical robotics
  • Nationality of a NATO member nation or close ally is required

About us

The world is changing. Exponential technologies are enabling new types of security threats. ATS is committed to staying ahead by building nimble, scalable, and cost-effective defences. We are looking for passionate team members who are eager to create exceptional products, safeguard our freedom, and strengthen the resilience of democracies.

Who we are: Autonomous Teaming is a defence-tech start-up specializing in machine vision solutions. Driven by cutting-edge innovation, our team works on next-generation technologies designed to meet rapidly evolving security challenges.

What we do: We develop systems that enable computers and sensors to operate as coordinated teams, collaborating in real time to counter AI-powered asymmetric threats at scale — including drone swarms and other UXVs. Our mission is to build resilient, intelligent defence capabilities that perform reliably in the most demanding environments.

How we work: We value close, in-person collaboration as the foundation for building complex, high-impact technology, while maintaining flexibility aligned to role and team needs. Our culture is built on ownership, responsibility, and trust — with a shared commitment to growing and building together.
